Alpha & Omega Group, PC, is looking for a bridge inspection team leader for NBIS highway bridge inspections and other structure condition inspections. The team leader performs advanced level inspection and scheduling on a bridge inspection team in a large geographical area. This person makes determinations on whether to close a severely defective structure. The team leader writes, reviews, and revises detailed structure inspection reports documenting findings to determine the structural integrity, safety, and recommended maintenance needs of highway structures. They ensure that all data needed to complete an inspection package is obtained; train new inspectors; schedule, plan, and determine the team's activities; and select the most appropriate inspection techniques and equipment. The team leader works under the limited supervision of a bridge inspection project supervisor. Work is reviewed and evaluated upon completion for accuracy of inspections and adherence to safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Review previous inspection reports and plan field operations
  • Perform inspection work and compile reports
  • Direct other team members
  • Enforce safe operations in the field
  • Liaison with client field/ facility staff, assist with critical condition findings
  • Technical compliance
  • Plan, schedule, and perform bridge inspections in accordance with requirements of specific bridge owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges
  • Review other team leader inspection reports

Minimum Requirements:

  • Successful completion of FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
  • Five years of NCDOT bridge inspection with WIGINS Element and Mobile experience
  • Familiar with AASHTO Manual for Bridge Element Inspection
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Ability to travel overnight within North Carolina for multiple days at a time
  • Ability to work in cold or hot weather and traverse rough, uneven/sloping ground
  • Ability to work in environments where exposure to water, heights, and wildlife are common
  • Ability to read technical drawings, climb a 30-foot ladder, use a variety of hand tools, and operate access equipment (man-lift, snoopers, jon-boat, etc.)
  • Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) experience with Ultrasonic, UPV, ½ cell, and other NDT equipment
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Database experience
