In the summer of 2001, Alpha & Omega Group was selected by Raleigh Durham Airport Authority to provide pavement design, contract documents, construction administration and 24-hour construction observation for the re-construction of International Drive, locally known as Tunnel Road.

A fast-tract project schedule minimized the impact to RDU operations and general public flight plans, through only eight days of roadway closure. The $340K project involved removing existing pavement, removing & replacing unsuitable soils, repairing the existing storm drainage system, and installing a sub-drainage system to carry perched water away from the roadbed. NCDOT Superpave mixes were used for base and surface material due to heavy bus traffic and high tire pressures.
