Alpha & Omega Group was selected to perform an NBIS Inspection of the Albemarle Sound Bridge. This 3.5 mile long concrete roadway bridge spans the Albemarle Sound between Washington and Chowan Counties in North Carolina. Having been built in the 1930's, this bridge required special care.

The bridge itself consists of prestressed precast concrete trestle slabs and prestressed precast concrete segmental box beams supported by post and beam piers with conventionally reinforced concrete caps on prestressed precast concrete piles.

Inspection included the measuring of joint openings with surface temperature measured on the deck surface and the bottom of the box beam directly below.

The entire bridge deck surface was surveyed by CH Engineering using a high density laser scanning technique. The data was tied to the NC state plane grid system horizontally by incorporating four OPUS GPS points. Ω
