As a consultant to WithersRavenel, Alpha & Omega Group provided structural design services for Middle Creek Greenway in Apex.

One segment of Middle Creek Greenway had already been completed, but the Town of Apex wanted to extend the greenway to connect Pemberly Subdivision with Reunion Point Subdivision. This extension included the design of approximately 1,600 linear feet of timber boardwalk with a lookout, one 40-foot pedestrian bridge, one 45-foot pedestrian bridge, 70 feet of 10-foot-high concrete cast-in-place retaining wall, and 140 feet of 10-foot-high modular concrete segmental retaining wall. WR requested that A&O provide designs and preform construction administration for this part of the extension.

The A&O Team designed the plans in accordance with Town of Apex standards. This included structure typical sections and plan and profiles based on horizontal and vertical alignment. As part of the design, they performed a constructability review, including contractor access, staging, and need for temporary construction easements for efficient construction. The team also provided an engineer’s opinion of probable construction costs and technical specifications.

After the design phase was complete, Segment 1, which included 1,241 linear feet of paved trail and the two retaining walls, was bid and awarded for construction. During the construction phase, the A&O team answered contractor questions, provided product submittal review, addressed requests for information and change order request. The team also performed field observation and reporting for structural items and provided a final inspection. Ω
