Wake County Dam 2
Emergency Spillway Repair
Wake County needed help with repairs to three areas of progressive erosion and bank settlement on portions of the emergency spillway for Dam #2. Area #1 is located behind the homes along Landser Court, Area #2 is behind the homes along Badin Lake Court, approximately 300 feet south of the existing asphalt path, and Area #3 is located behind the homes along Badin Lake Court. In Area #3, a 24-inch reinforced concrete pipe was discharging stormflow from the adjacent neighborhood, causing rills and channels from the discharge point, to the edge of the pond.
Alpha & Omega Group coordinated with McKim & Creed to obtain all topographic survey data for the spillway and the three specific areas. We provided detail for a rip-rap dissipator pad for the existing RCP outlet in Area #3 and supplied guidance for restoring eroded areas downstream. We delivered construction documents for the repair of Areas #1 and 2, a project manual, and bidding documents and specifications. We also developed an engineer’s opinion of probable costs, submitted proposed plans to USDA-NRCS and NCDENR Dam Safety for review and approval, and assisted with obtaining an encroachment easement from the Town of Cary.
Finally, the A&O Construction Administration staff assisted the owner with bidding of the work, provided construction administration during the construction phase, and furnished the owner with as-built record plans in paper and electronic format. Ω
